NEBOSH National General Certificate

Aim

The NEBOSH National General Certificate is for Managers, Supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a wide understanding of Health and Safety issues in order to be able to manage risks effectively.  It can form a first step towards a career in health and safety or further professional study.  Delegates should be able to demonstrate understanding through the application of knowledge to familiar and unfamiliar situations.

Location:

This course will run at PROCAT Basildon campus, or TUCA Ilford campus depending on demand.

Course Content

The 15-day course is structured in three parts giving candidates a foundation in the practical aspects, as well as an insight into the management of occupational safety and health.

  • UNIT NGC 1: Management of Health and Safety – consisting of eight elements
  • UNIT GC 2: Controlling workplace hazards – consisting of eight elements
  • UNIT NGC 3: Health and Safety practical application

The course syllabus has been unitised in accordance with QCA for England and the level of the examination is set at Level 3 equating to Advanced Level or Advanced GNVQ. 

PLEASE NOTE:

Delegates should not rely on course attendance as a means of achieving the course.  A substantial number of hours of self-study (at least 50 hours) will be required.  Homework will be set weekly. As part of the course, candidates will have to carry out a risk assessment relating to their workplace.

The Nebosh Practical Assessment:

Workplace physical inspection and recording, including identifying hazards, assessing risk level and identifying actions.
Written report to management on the inspection – concentrating on convincing management to take action.

Pre-requisites

IOSH Managing Safely qualification is desirable.

Assessment

Two 2-hour written exams and a practical assessment to be completed in the workplace.  The course covers the elements required to successfully pass the examination and practical assessment (GC3) leading to non-corporate Technical membership of The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Delivery Mode

The course is delivered as a day release programme of 15 days structured as follows:

12 Days covering the NEBOSH syllabus
2 Days revision and examination techniques
1 Day - written papers NGC1 and GC2 (held on Day 15)

Course days are run from 9am to 5pm.

Accreditation       

Upon successful completion of both written examinations and practical assessment the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety will be issued. 

PLEASE NOTE: All correspondence from NEBOSH (exam slips, results and certificates) will be sent directly to the delegate’s home address as specified on the exam registration form.
