A consortium of schools may choose to approach the team at PROCareer to set up a STEM club on site at PROCAT college. This will enable the young people involved to:

  • access our state of the art workshops;
  • experience first-hand the practical aspects of trades within construction and engineering;
  • learn about the different routes and career paths that these industries can lead to.

Last year PROCAT played host on a Saturday morning to a Construction Club. Over a period of six weeks the students, taught by industry experts, built their own room and developed skills in plastering, electrical installation, carpentry, plumbing, painting and tiling. Parents were invited to a final awards ceremony led by Neil Bates, PROCAT Principal and Chief Executive, where students were presented with certificates of completion and where opportunities for careers in the construction industry were explained.

The PROCAT Basildon Campus has also accommodated a Young Engineers Club. Those involved were supported by industry experts to work on a different project each week. They used engineering based skills to create a metal dice and a desk tidy, wire a lighting circuit, and solder a roulette wheel. They also completed a computer programming activity using a programme called raspberry pi.
