Motor Vehicle Maintenance

Introduction

PROCAT vehicle maintenance courses are designed for people who are interested in developing a career in the motor industry. You will learn how to maintain and repair a wide range of vehicles; from cars and trucks to motorcycles. You could go on to running your very own car maintenance business or work on hybrid vehicles safely. Courses start at Level 2 and go through to a Level 3 Apprenticeship, upon completion of which, you will be fully qualified.

Course Details

What you will study

On the Vehicle Maintenance courses, you will start your journey to becoming a fully qualified Mechanic or Vehicle Technician. There is an excellent range of practical and theoretical lessons which help you develop skills in a realistic and well-equipped environment.  You will learn about all aspects of vehicle maintenance including chassis and frame, engines, steering, suspension, braking systems and more.

The importance of maths and English in daily life is beyond question. Almost every job requires the ability to read, write and use numbers confidently – especially in Construction or Engineering where you will be pricing jobs, measuring and completing tasks to precision.

English and maths qualifications are an essential element of your Study Programme and Apprenticeship training.

Apprentices:

Grade 3 (D) or below you must study Functional Skills
Grade 4 (C) or above do not need Functional Skills

Study Programmes:

Grade 4 (C) or above students must study extended maths and English
Grade 3 (D) students must study GCSE maths and English

Self Study: 

PROCAT guidelines for self-study, meaning extra reading, researching and writing are as follows but of-course this is down to your own work ethic.

For a PASS:

Level 3: 1-2 hours per week studying at home/outside of college
Level 4: 3-4 hours per week studying at home/outside of college
Degree Apprenticeship: 5-6 hours per week studying at home/outside of college

Type of work

Completing the Apprenticeship can lead to a career in motor vehicle maintenance. This involves carrying out vehicle maintenance and inspections including servicing, diagnosing, repairing and replacing faulty parts and maintaining records.

Study Format: 1 day per week (day release apprenticeship)

Level 3 Apprenticeship (Heavy Vehicle)
Location: Redbridge Training Facility
Duration: 3 years
Study Format: 1 day per week (day release apprenticeship)
