Introduction

A course in Construction Maintenance Operations provides the perfect platform to gain a variety skills used in trades within the construction sector.

The Level 1 course gives the opportunity to learn skills from all trades in construction and continue onto an Intermediate Apprenticeship or change to a Level 2 course in either Carpentry or Plumbing, before progressing to an Advanced Apprenticeship.

What you will study

This Multi-Skilled Construction course will equip you with a broad range of skills and enable you to develop the practical experience and knowledge required for Construction Maintenance Operations, including: Carpentry and Joinery, Brickwork, Painting and Decorating, Tiling, Plastering and Plumbing. 

The importance of maths and English in daily life is beyond question. Almost every job requires the ability to read, write and use numbers confidently – especially in Construction or Engineering where you will be pricing jobs, measuring and completing tasks to precision.

English and maths qualifications are an essential element of your Study Programme and Apprenticeship training.

Apprentices:

Grade 3 (D) or below you must study Functional Skills
Grade 4 (C) or above do not need Functional Skills

Study Programmes:

Grade 4 (C) or above students must study extended maths and English
Grade 3 (D) students must study GCSE maths and English

Self Study: 

PROCAT guidelines for self-study, meaning extra reading, researching and writing are as follows but of-course this is down to your own work ethic.

For a PASS:

Level 3: 1-2 hours per week studying at home/outside of college
Level 4: 3-4 hours per week studying at home/outside of college
Degree Apprenticeship: 5-6 hours per week studying at home/outside of college

Type of work

Construction Maintenance requires practical, hands-on, skilled work. Completing the Intermediate Apprenticeship enables you to work as a maintenance operative, carrying out general repairs and maintenance to brickwork, paint, plaster, woodwork and other elements of existing buildings. 

You could work on building sites, in people's houses and other commercial buildings, working for small family-run companies, larger contractors or you could work for yourself.

Study Format: 3 days per week

Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship

Location: PROCAT Canvey Island Campus
Duration: 18 months
Study Format: 1 day per week (day release apprenticeship)
