Looking for a career in Building Services Engineering but not sure about which area to go into?
This qualification is ideal if you are thinking about a career in Building Services Engineering and have no previous experience in the sector. Building services is an introductory qualification, providing learners with foundation knowledge of the four trades within the sector.
You will learn a broad range of skills before progressing to a trade specific qualification in the second year and then onto an Advanced Apprenticeship.
What you will study
The course provides a taste of skills in the four disciplines within the sector. These are electrotechnical, plumbing, heating and ventilation and refrigeration and air conditioning.
The importance of maths and English in daily life is beyond question. Almost every job requires the ability to read, write and use numbers confidently – especially in Construction or Engineering where you will be pricing jobs, measuring and completing tasks to precision.
English and maths qualifications are an essential element of your Study Programme and Apprenticeship training.

Grade 4 (C) or above students must study extended maths and English
Grade 3 (D) students must study GCSE maths and English
PROCAT guidelines for self-study, meaning extra reading, researching and writing are as follows but of-course this is down to your own work ethic.
For a PASS:
Level 3: 1-2 hours per week studying at home/outside of college
Level 4: 3-4 hours per week studying at home/outside of college
Degree Apprenticeship: 5-6 hours per week studying at home/outside of college
If you are looking for higher grades, then obviously more hours each week would need to be spent at home/outside of college studying.
Type of work
This qualification enables you to develop hand-skills and demonstrate your ability to complete common tasks within the industry. Learners will gain the basic core skills training and underpinning knowledge to facilitate progression into further learning.
