Role of PROCareer STEM Advisor

During 2015 and 2016 PROCAT was supported by a grant from the Edge Foundation to develop innovative ways of enhancing young people’s awareness of the opportunities that exist in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related careers. In particular we wanted to highlight priority areas where there is a national skills shortage, such as in railway engineering and aviation, and to expose students first hand to the exciting careers they can access.

To support this process we appointed our very own PROCareer STEM Advisor who has worked and who continues to work  free of charge  with over 30 schools in Essex and the Thames Gateway to:

  • provide inspirational information and guidance about STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related careers, helping young people choose paths that support their talents and ambitions;
  • enhance the curriculum by, for example, designing and delivering STEM related projects, introducing STEM clubs and facilitating workplace visits;
  • enable young people to experience first-hand the practical aspects of trades within construction and engineering.
